This was a slow burn story featuring really unlikeable and stupid characters, a bunch of body horror, and pretty much no answers on the why/how of anything. The writing was blunt and relatively effective/gross but I’ve read other body horror that is way better. This one was a bit of a disappointment for me given the high praise. I’m learning, however, that the horror genre has incredible variability when it comes to story crafting and reader reviews are often not to be trusted.
