The premise of this one had me hooked. She's a witch, he's a demon prince cursed to spend his days as a cat. He's on a mission to kidnap her sister and bring her to his brother, the Crown Prince of Demon-dom , she runs a bakery with her younger sister in a witchy town. So much could have been done with this, but it feels like it fell a bit short of its potential for me. Give me more of the demon realm, let me meet more of the witches in Willow's coven, show us more about Damien's past. It felt very surface level. And once we got to the steam? It feels like that's alllllll we talked about from that moment on. The characters lost all their depth and just repeating "little witch" and "my demon" over and over and over again. He keeps repeating that he isn't good enough for her, that he's too dark and twisty for this sunshiney "little witch" but we learn NOTHING about him or why he's dark and twisty. We know his mom died, and we get a hint that he was involved or there or something (??), but nothing else. We know that he is an errand boy for his brother and that he resents it, but other than fetching Luna, what does he do?? Is he brother a bad guy?? We never find out! Also who was the witch that cursed him??? I just have so many questions still and all I know is that Willow has a slight exhibitionist kink.
The first 40% was honestly on the right track, but once we got into the physical side of their relationship (and focused on nothing else), I had to force myself to push through in the hopes that I got the depth that I wanted. And excuse me,Luna was struggling with her life's direction and her sister didn't even know???? Literally how. Get your head out of your boyfriend's existence and actually talk to her, for the love of the Goddess. I just have a lot of thoughts and feelings.
All of that to say, I think this is still going to be a great read for people who don't want a whole background and world-building and just want a little steamy Halloween romance. To I recommend this one to: anyone wanting a light, steamy, Halloweeny palette cleanser; those that wear orange polka dotted dresses in October unironically; pumpkin flavor enthusiasts; cat people that believe black cats are lucky.
