“Ever since my mom died, I cry in H Mart.”
I gave this 5 stars, but in truth, if I’m being honest, this book really cannot be given a specific rating. It is so deeply personal that it feels wrong to rate it, though I found it incredibly impactful and compelling throughout. Zauner’s writing style is unlike anything I’ve read before: at times stoic and indifferent, and at other times highly emotional.
This is a book that displays the intricacies of human relationships, the complex effects of various childhood traumas, and how you can go on in life despite all of this. Absolutely beautiful.
In short, this is a book I will think about for the rest of my life.
