A beautiful Carribean-based fantasy with amazing themes of racism and oppression woven into gorgeous writing.
Though I don't love all of the choices that Sigourney Rose makes, I can understand to an extent why some of those choices are made. The political climate of this novel was approached in a way that I wasn't expecting but thoroughly enjoyed.
The biggest surprise to this novel was the murder mystery element to the story. I enjoyed how high stakes it made things feel, and I am greatly looking forward to the sequel.
