An Enchantment of Ravens by Margaret Rogerson

“Why do we desire, above all other things, that which has the greatest power to destroy us?”
To say I was disappointed and underwhelmed with this book is an understatement. I was so looking forward to reading this based on the synopsis and it being compared to the A Court of Thorns and Roses series a lot. I really wanted to love it as I adore fair folk but I couldn't. I can't count the amount of times I wanted to dnf this book. But I kept pushing myself to read this, hoping it would get better. It was too short for a standalone fantasy book. It needed to be longer for the story to be more developed or have another book. However, I will read Sorcery of Thorns and hope that book is better.
I didn't care for the characters at all. They were so dull and had no personality whatsoever. Their love was a whole cringe-fest, there was no chemistry between them. It was sudden and underdeveloped. The plot was non-existent and just consisted of them walking through the forest for the first half of the book, then I had no idea what was even happening during the last part of the book. We was led to believe that Isobel was to be taken by the Rook, aka the Autumn Prince, after painting human emotion on his face and while it started off like that, the direction completed changed and they ended up doing something else. The whole thing just felt flat? The scenes felt rushed and left me utterly confused and the world building was poor and felt unfinished. But hey, that's just my opinion.
I'm honestly struggling to find anything I like about this book but if you're a sucker for insta love and the concept of the fair folk then you might like this.
“Ah, but you were not a pawn. All along, you have been the queen.”
