This Summer Will Be Different by Carley Fortune

adventurous lighthearted relaxing

5.0

This is officially my favourite book ever. A bold statement, I know, but it had me absolutely buzzing with emotions the entire time while reading. The romance was perfectly delicate and tender, the female friendships were wonderful, and the PEI setting was beautifully soft and immersive with its sentimental details. The setting is its own character, truly!

I love a great dual timeline. Beginning as a one-night stand, Lucy is shocked to discover the utterly handsome barman and skilled oyster shucker (who knew oyster shucking could be so sexy? haha!) is none other than the brother of her best friend. Spanning years of undeniable yearning, the relationship between Lucy and Felix was bursting full-strength with palpable tension.

"Felix can say my name a thousand different ways. A Lucy that vibrates in the back of his throat, gritty with desire. A Lucy that sounds like sun showers. A Lucy of smug amusement. A Lucy that's more a sigh of relief than a name. A Lucy that's all awe and wonder [...]"

The conflict(s) and overall development within their relationship felt so genuine. You know it'll end happily—it's a romance, after all—but your heart will blissfully ache in the process. I'm already planning my reread.

(heat level: multiple open-door scenes, moderate details)
