I have rarely read a history book so thorough and unflinching. It’s less of a narrative and more of a meticulous record of the Nakba—a necessary correction to the erasure of this history in Israel, the US, and elsewhere. It is impossible to read this book and not be radicalized, both on the necessity of Palestinian liberation and the importance of anti-colonialism everywhere. Although he was writing in 2007, Pappe speaks prophetically: “the risk of even more devastating conflict and bloodshed has never been so acute.”
