"The Breeder" is still something else, evoking considerations of how sexual reproduction is controlled on all fronts in, a manner damned near akin to Goldilocks and The Three Bears: 0 children is too few, X, is too many, Y is just right. Highsmith's short little sentences make for a good collection of (fear-based) lesbian fairy tales, but what did this oversimplified posture do to her mind, her connections?
