Kingdom of the Wicked by Kerri Maniscalco
4.0
3.5 ✨
yes i read this with zero knowledge. yes i read this because i was obsessed with the cover. yes i impulsively started this. and yes it was average, i didn't hate it and i didn't love it either.
witches. demons. enemies to lovers. slow-burn romance. murder mystery. all in here!

Kingdom of the wicked follows Emilia di Carlo who lives in Sicily with her ever-protective Nonna (her grandmother), parents, and with her one and only twin named Vittoria. you see, they're streghe, witches, and they live in secret to avoid notice and persecution. then, witches start being brutally murdered, and one of them is Emilia's beloved twin. so, emilia sets out to find the killer, investigate, and seek revenge. there, she meets, more like summoned, and works with Wrath, one of the Wicked-princes of hell.
as i mentioned, i started this with zero knowledge, like i have no idea what to expect, i just love the cover. and yess, i wasn't entirely disappointed. (yay!) i like the atmosphere, it was dark and gothic. i also enjoyed the plot, it was intriguing andwrath was in it. the only problem, it was sometimes confusing for me.

(me a lil perplexed and having a theory in mind)
i was confused as hell so i was slowing down, to the point where i almost marked this book as dnf. i didn't like the writing style, some of emilia's actions were ig not properly explained and i couldn't feel the action. but ha! good thing i continued, because even tho this book is slow-paced for me, the story just keeps getting a little better.
Emilia is talented at cooking but she's not skilled at making decisions lmao. grief and vengeance changed her and i think it's good for her. i don't really hate emilia but if she'll make a dumb decision, i can't-
Wrath. wrath. handsome wrath. he gives life to the book. and i can see why most people like him. i love the fact that he cares for emilia (like so many times when she did a stupid thing).
and this freaking line said by emilia: <3
"I wanted to kick him for being so dangerously breathtaking. His head snapped in my direction, his gaze capturing mine. For a minute, I forgot how to breathe."
some other supporting characters were okay, i didn't mind them much. well except for Nonna, because she was quite a badass and for Antonio, because he wassuspicious.

(lol. me celebrating when my theory was right)
Overall, 3.5 stars (i was in a dilemma). i had fun. wrath is hot. the romance is interesting. i adore the atmosphere. and i need the second book right now!

Two sisters.
One brutal murder.
A quest for vengeance that will unleash Hell itself…
And an intoxicating romance.
