The Wilds by Sarah Pearse
4.0
This was definitely my favorite book of the series even though it had the least interesting location for a mystery of all three, though that was just because it had gone so big on that front in the previous two books and not because it was a bad locale. There was definite character growth going on here (with more waiting in the wings) with Isaac and Elin trying to patch up their relationship and Elin realizing she's got to figure out how to be happy on her own.
I appreciated the resolution to Kier's and the camp's story. How the whole thing with Penn played out was a little much for me but it wasn't so much that I couldn't let it slide; and I could've done without Etta to be totally honest, she just reinforces a lot of domestic violence narratives (in fiction) that somehow a maternal instinct is what you need to fight back. Since Kier planned to find Romy even without knowing she was pregnant though, and Romy was the deciding factor to flee, it wasn't as alienating as it could've been.
