Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston
5.0
This is one of those books that ranks as an all-time favorite of mine because of timing, as well as content. Sometimes the right book comes to you at the right time and it connects with your spirit...another time, it may not have hit you in quite the same way. The last 7 months of my life have been all about authenticity...and this book is about just that. It's the timeless story of a woman, who happens to be an African-American woman living in the 1920's, figuring out who she is and becoming completely authentic...even at the cost of her comfort and security. Similar in literary feel to The Color Purple, this is an outstanding novel that is as relevant today to women of all colors as it was back in the early 20th century. The sign of a true classic...
