The Atlas Complex by Olivie Blake
3.0
I almost hate that this was a review copy, because I honestly don’t even know what to say.
(could also be a 2.5 as a book and a series once I’ve sat with it for longer)
There’s a line on page 266 and it says- I feel like we’re in a pretentious film about tortured geniuses- and really just replace the word film for book and this is the entire series summed up. This series is completely character driven, with minimal plot, and for a character driven series this last book left a lot to be desired. We had some character development in the third book, but honestly majority of the characters still read the same as they did in book one, it was boring. For a book also primarily driven by relationships there really wasn’t really any substance to the relationships, they lacked serious depth.
I also didn’t enjoy the fact that in the end everyone’s in love with everyone, it was just too much.
Olivie Blake tried a bit too hard to be political and I just think that Atlas Six should’ve been a stand-alone novel.
To summarise, Atlas Six (book one) was definitely the best in the series, book two fell to typical book two syndrome and the final third of the Atlas Complex was actually a compelling the read in some moments, but majority of the book took me three weeks to read and felt like a waste of time once we got to that disappointing ending (underwhelming in every sense of the word).
Olivie Blake will forever be a favourite fanfic writer but this series will not be one I recommend to friends.
