This book is a great example of how a good story doesn't need morally good characters. Each protagonist in Vicious is at least a certain degree of evil, and eventually, all of them descend into villainy.

The story was dark and gritty, and how ExtraOrdinaries are "created" hit me quite hard, but it wasn't gruesome or scary. The initial shift between past and present worked really well for the compelling plot and to slowly unravel the mysteries of the characters, and I was almost a bit disappointed when it switched to only the present. There was no slow or boring part, the action and decisions kept coming and keeping the reader on their toes, and I loved the writing style. Even the ending was action-packed and satisfying in a way that I almost did not expect.

There are not many (good) books that feature superheroes and -villains, so if you're into either, definitely give this a try!
