i can't believe george orwell invented gaslighting

it's interesting to read this with it feeling like a classic kind of dystopia when knowing that it was groundbreaking when it was written and established so many of the ideas we think of a classic dystopian tropes. it's definitely fascinating worldbuilding and really makes you think about our current politics and society (what would orwell think now?)
