The Omega's Secret Baby by Ann-Katrin Byrde

3.0

This is actually a 2.5 but I've read worst stuff so I don't think it deserves only 2. It was so disappointing. I am familiar with this author and I like her writting style. The idea was great, a single parent raising his 7 years old kid, suddenly meets the father of his child again, who wasn't told he was a father and married a girl. Sounds great, right?

The execution failed badly. I loved Elias and Jake. They were the reason I pushed through. But Matthew was unlikable to me. He was described as stubborn more than twice, but he never displayed that trait. He's supossed to be an alpha, rich and popular. Where was that? He read most as like a regular person. Not saying that I expect all alpha MCs to be super dominant, but I really feel Elias needed someone who wasn't so weak.

Other commenters mentioned Matthew was meek, and they're right. He doesn't stand up for himself or the person he loves until much later in the book. I understand that it could be his character development, but I am not interested in a story about a guy putting his family and job first, when his omega partner gave up everything. Elias always had to work harder. And yes, the ending was nice and it balanced out that dynamic, but still, it isn't enough.

There was no grovelling as well. If it's a second chance, Matthew should've worker harder to gain them back, I wasn't into Elias accepting him that easily. The confrontation with his mother and sister also left me with "okay that's it?". He has money and is the family's heir for god's sake. But he needs other people to tell him what to do, and he's almost 30.

Also, did I mention the sex scenes were boring? Not only those, but on the second half I was skimming pages, the narration was bland at times, not bad but as if it was devoid of feelings. I just remembered there was a scene where Matthew got mad at Elias for keeping the child a secret, and while I get it, I hated how at times the narrative sort of kept blaming Elias for not telling him, as if it wasn't complicated.

I feel bad for Elias, now
Spoilerpregnant again
and with this guy. He isn't bad, actually became a good parent and partner but it's frustrating. It was nice to see their HEA, but these feelings don't go away with a cute epilogue, so it's a disappointment.
