The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins
2.0
This is an understandably polarizing book. But let me say, as an atheist, it's just not very good. While Dawkins does a fine job of making his case, and has a gift for writing, The God Delusion left me feeling a little... well dirty. For one the man is unapologetic in his distaste for religion (especially the organized type), and there is nothing wrong with that. But his attacks on faith often come off as condescending and occasionally misrepresent both the nature and goals of religious faith.
I agree with about 80% of what Dawkins has to say about the evidence against literal interpretations of religious texts and the potential such doctrines provide for abuse. But between being unnecessarily combative (much of the book might as well be written in all caps) and clearly misunderstanding the basic foundation for religious faith he loses even this ardent non-believer.
