Something Wild & Wonderful by Anita Kelly
5.0
I mean, I don't think I have anything negative at all to say about this book.
I wasn't sure how much I'd enjoy it when I first started as I'm like the least outdoorsy person on earth. I'm so happy I decided to give it a try, though, because I swear, it was one of the best things I've ever read.
The story is a beautiful journey from start to finish. It felt really important to read, I thought. I know that most books are a journey of self discovery or acceptance on some level, but I really felt this one deeply.
Alexei and Ben are close to perfect as main characters. I love the way that they interact, even their awkward first couple of meetings were a treat to read about. The pacing of their relationship progression was great. I loved the use of humor at certain points to help offset some of the serious and upsetting topics that the story works through. Honestly I could read a whole series about these two beautiful, awkward nerds. I could also write an entire essay about how these two will now live in my heart forever, but it feels like I can't even put my love for them into words properly.
The other thing that really struck me, was how important and special each of the side characters are. Even the ones that are mentioned in passing felt absolutely necessary to the story as a whole. Each of them served a purpose in moving the plot forward and helping one or both of the MCs to learn or realise things that helps them grow as people.
All in all, I'm obsessed and I would not be mad if Anita Kelly wrote more about these two angels. I want to know about every tiny domestic detail in their lives!
