I truly commend this book for using prose succinctly and making every paragraph impactful and relevant to the story. Even in a novella, that's quite rare. The focus on Slavic folklore was really interesting, but I loved that the story explored multiple belief systems, including Zoroastrianism. I particularly enjoyed that the Gods didn't merely use humans as pawns; they actually cared about the humans in the story.

Some elements of the story that didn't work for me include how the diction made Roman sound like an overgrown angsty teenager. Some of the descriptions were unwieldy and I think the book could've benefitted from illustrations for the sigils, for example. Lastly,
Roman's brother merely being labelled a "psychopath" felt like a cop-out to give Roman a shallow tragic backstory. This revelation lacked nuance, and I do hope we can explore his character in future books.
