Reaped from Faerie by WB McKay

This is a short and light read and I really enjoyed it.

I found something rather refreshing in Sophie: She had a chip on her shoulder, not really news for an MC, said chip is selfdestructing her so-called friendship with Owen.

We've seen this before, probably a million times, the MC who doesn't see the value in herself and talks herself down and don't understand that someone actually ENJOYS HER COMPANY.

So cliche. So done.
So why am I impressed?

And this is a spoiler from the book.
Sophie has this chip, people don't really know about it. Sophie hasn't had to confront it up until now because she moved away from home as soon as she could and have been mostly friendless since. And now she's getting involved in all kinds of people and suddenly she is seeing her mom again.

and.. here's the thing. Sophie might have some lingering insecurities in the future, but Sophies mom sat down with Sophie and went "This is my fault". And they sobbed. and cried. and hugged and Sophie realized she had a chip on her shoulder and said chip wasn't entirely based in fact so she got her head out of her ass and kind-of-apologized for her bad behavior.

And I loved this. These chips doesn't normally get confronted. These chips are part of a character portrait. and said portrait rarely changes. And when the chips DOES get focused on is 10 books into the series and the MC is about to marry the guy she's been bickering with for the last 5 books yknow? But Sophie is already growing, in book 2, and I'm really excited for the next book. Hoping they'll continue getting better!
