Chicken Story Time by Sandy Asher

4.0

When chickens find out there's a story time at the library, every week the chicken crowd grows... until it's out of control! Good thing the smart librarian thinks of the perfect solution to quell the chaos and bring peace back to the library for everyone (chickens included!). This is a great read-aloud for storytimes and will make little people laugh out loud as the chickens take over. It will also make a great lap-sit, because there are a few nice details that you can point out in a one-on-one read: in the end, the librarian encourages each child to take a few chickens and give them a storytime, which is echoed in the subtle flyers tacked in and outside the library about upcoming "Read to a Dog" sessions. Older kids will easily make the connection, while younger ones will need a little help realizing that the flyers were clues to the ending all along. A deceptively simple picture book with layers of humor, excellent illustrations, and vivacious chickens.
