Last to Eat, Last to Learn: My Life in Afghanistan Fighting to Educate Women by Pashtana Durrani, Tamara Bralo

A memoir written about a period that is only a few years behind us. Pashtana wrote a personal and moving story about her life as an Afghan who has lived in Pakistan for years because of the unsafe situation in Afghanistan. Although education is something for boys, Pashtana does receive lessons. And this makes it increasingly clear to her how dire the situation is for many girls in Afghanistan. Something she wants to do something about. And does. She starts her own NGO, with which she wants to ensure that more girls receive education. Something that is anything but easy. Durrani knows how to describe her setbacks and experiences in such a way that they are not only facts, but that they also gave me as a reader an image of her personal setbacks and successes.
Highly recommended! Not only because of the personal story and the importance of her activism, but also because the book gives you as a reader a different view of Afghanistan, the influence of the Taliban and the position of women there.
