I liked this book a lot. It was not much of a retelling in the sense that we were deprived of a few major incidents but once you overlook that I will say that the rest of the book was very enjoyable. The mystery was very interesting with some good plot twists. I liked the way the author reimagined the characters of the antagonists. It was a very refreshing and might I say amusing and funny take. I have always wanted Lizzie to wipe off that smirk of Collins right away with her words.
The banter between Elizabeth and Darcy was SO GOOD. And the last few pages were downright awesome and I was grinning and so so OVERJOYED!!! Also special mention to Jane and Charlotte!!! I truly loved how the author portrayed them and Charlotte and Lizzie’s anticlimax scene was chef’s kiss.
I want to be a feminist and say Darcy’s letter and the confession are not the only highlights of P & P. But I concede that they were very crucial moments to develop the story and throw light on the characters. So it sting a little to not get them in this story but nonetheless I loved Darcy here. He had so many layers and the descriptions of his character was so beautifully done. Elizabeth too was headstrong and so sure of herself. I can keep on reading about her in original and every retelling.
At the end : Kudos to Jane Austen, women like Elizabeth Bennet, women who dared to be the first to pass the exams to be solicitors and to all the women daring to venture in unknown territory. You all walked then just so we could run now.
