The Secret History by Donna Tartt
5.0
god, how does one even explain this book?
i reread it multiple times and i still find some sort of theme to ponder upon, some narrative twist to wonder at, a glimpse of character that makes me love this book all the more.
now, i'm going to be honest: this is a book filled with terrible people—but the thing is, you'll love them even so. you'll love them because they were terrible. you'll love and hate them in equal parts.
despite being on the camp of tsh being a satire (and it is), everything feels so vividly and complexly human that they could have walked off the pages any time. upon which i'll punch them in the face because they're that annoying and pretentious.
i realise this review isn't doing anything much to convince you to read it, but honestly i reread it several times and i'm still in awe of how tartt wove this particular narrative together.
