The Turning Tide by Sasha Silsbury

3.0

So it appears that I enjoyed this book more than others, as I can see from the reviews. This is my first book from this author so I have zero knowledge about other series, which I know would help have a bigger understanding of these characters.

The plot is about Ben, an omega who is sold to a despicable alpha who has another omega abducted and abuses them both for years. Eric is the second alpha, who learns about the abuse but cannot do much because if he does, he'd die since the alpha is stronger and no one is able to defy him, and he also has someone to protect: his brother. But Eric canmot keep watching the horrors of his doings, so he'll find a way to put a stop to everything.

To be honest, the book has its flaws. I agree with other readers saying that there is a chapter missing, and that some things happened fast or were left in the air, but for some reason this worked for me. I really liked the melancholic atmosphere, how Ben wasn't fine even after years of that certain event, and that Ben and Eric's relationship wasn't the biggest focus. I wouldn't even call this a romance. I mostly see it as Ben's story.

I think the ending feels open for a reason, as if Ben's journey didn't finish there, and I actually feel it was fitting for this plot. If it were different, then the book should have had at least 400 pages because it has a lot of potential and things to solve. Instead, it feels as if Ben just started living his life, and it actually left me feeling with hope. I don't think I would've liked it as much if both MCs ended up together, with the circumstances it wouldn't have felt organic and realistic. I also think that the scene where Ben asks Eric
Spoilerif he wants to have something with him (sex heavily implied)
is kind of empowering, giving his backstory. It doesn't need to mean they'll be mates right away, but it's a start. Exactly the word I'd use to describe this book.
