EllRay Jakes Is Not a Chicken by Sally Warner

While my 8 year old loved this story, there were so many problematic themes I would not let her read anything else by this author. I initially grabbed this because the protagonist is a Black 8 year old. But later realized it's written by a white woman. There are rampant gender stereotypes, physical fights amongst third graders, weird attempts at (terribly) demonstrating restorative justice, and the dad lets two 8 year olds go do rides alone at Disneyland. No.
