November 9 by Colleen Hoover
1.0
NO, JUST NO!! Uhhh, Colleen's mind. Who would've thought that before Verity and Layla, she had actually written a CREEPY HORROR BOOK that is November 9. I know I am way too late for the hype, but let me ramble with my thoughts. First of all, I think Colleen Hoover is such an amazing writer, if we're gonna talk about how she weaves the internal thoughts of her characters and the plot. She also creates interesting premise and "surprising" plot twists (none of them actually surprises me, I saw this book's twist from a mile away). But my main problem with her stories is that CHARACTERS FUCK UP, that's okay, BUT THE WAY THEY DEVELOP ALWAYS, ALWAYS FEELS RUSHED AND UNREALISTIC.
I'm just gonna talk about the spoilers, since that's my main gripe in the story. Before that ridiculous twist and stupid ENDING, the book was pretty much a three star read for me. Spoilers, here I come!!
That's not even my biggest issue. It's that STUPID ending. How could she possibly forgive that easily???? Yes, he was sorry, yes his life sucks, but was is that easy to forgive someone whom had caused you trauma and pain in the past? I would understand that someone you'll learn to find forgiveness inside you, but just in the span of hours or days?? I don't think that's even realistic. I think I would've liked this book better if they just remain civil for now, test the waters, give each other space, and maybe try again. Hell, they even managed to do that type of relationship back then.
I'm done ranting.

Spoiler
So it was Ben who started the fire because he was angry that Fallon's father wasn't mourning enough. Huh, as if kicking the precious car is the hallmark of grieving. Yeah, I get it. He was fucking stupid, his emotions pent up. But then it was revealed that his mom had cancer and she would rather die than her children to see her being consumed by the disease. Blah blah blah. Ben felt bad, of course. Years later, he saw Fallon's father in his mom's grave, realizing the father actually loves his mom. He followed him, witnessed that the father berates Fallon about her downfall in the show business industry, and decided to pose as his BF. Sounds cute, right? Huh even my 16 year old jock deprived self won't say such. I say that Ben was a fucking manipulator. If you really were sorry for the girl and didn't want to atone for your sin verbally, the least you could do is to fucking stay away from her. Let her heal with her own wounds. Gradually, she'd realize that her scars were not her flaws. It's impossible that he's the only one who could do that to her. I feel like CoHo is shoving down our throats the fact that Ben is whom Fallon NEEDS to heal. Tbh, it wasn't romantic at all. It was a fucking co-dependent relationship. With this stupid rule on their arrangement, they didn't even communicate until every year's November 9th. That's a toxic way for someone to be obsessed, not in love, with you. There is curiosity, there is desire and lust, but LOVE??? I don't think so.That's not even my biggest issue. It's that STUPID ending. How could she possibly forgive that easily????
