Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince by J.K. Rowling
5.0
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is a great build up for Deathly Hallows, with enough action and new things introduced to be more interesting (for me) than Order of the Phoenix. Don't get me wrong though, I absolutely adore this entire series, just look at the other review I have written for these books. Although it is not my favorite out of the entire series, I do really appreciate the mystery behind the Potions book and I really loved that Dumbledore finally trusted Harry to give him some information about Voldemort's past. The memories were some of my favorite parts of this book, which were slightly overlooked in the movie.
I feel like every time I reread these I find something new that I had completely forgotten or just totally overlooked. I had made a note about Harry checking the copyright date for the Potions book that said over 50 years before, and he said there was no way it could have been his father or any of his friends since they weren't at Hogwarts at that time. I got confused because Snape was at school the same time as them and I couldn't remember how it connected. When I continued to the end and Hermione explains that Snape's mother had been named Prince so it must have been a hand-me-down book, I totally didn't even come close to remembering that. But it's always fun to find new things to pick out of these stories to make it even that more special.
Dumbledore was a HUGE part to this series, and I think that his death should have been the same as the book for the movie. Having him petrify Harry before Malfoy showed up on the tower was a really important part, and the movie completely disregarded it, having Harry leave Dumbledore to find Snape. They also disregarded that no one is supposed to be able to Apperate on the grounds of Hogwarts, yet Harry and Dumbledore Apperated from the astronomy tower and back to it. I just find it fun to pick apart the differences in these reviews because I have nothing bad to say about the books.
And, for the....I'm not sure how many times, onto the last book, where I will still feel lost once it's over.
