I’ve never not loved the romance in a Denise Williams book, and Just Our Luck was no exception. The chemistry between Kieran and Sybil hit fast, and I loved every minute of their journey from meet-cute to happily ever after.
Williams never fails to write a swoony romance, but I was emotionally invested in both Sybil and Kieran’s family dynamic as well. For Sybil, it was all about proving her worth and letting her family see she did in fact have her life together. Kieran, on the other hand, felt like his dreams were perpetually on hold while he dutifully took care of his grandfather and sister and their family’s donut shop. Both main characters were definitely admirable in their care and support of their families, but I loved when they were able to put those thoughts and concerns aside to focus on their growing relationship.
Since both Kieran and Sybil were trying to find their own way while doing right by their families, there was so much character growth inherently built into this romance. I loved watching these two grow together as their fake dating became less fake, and as they found their paths in life and within their family dynamics. I would’ve loved for the fake dating to begin morphing into something real even earlier than it did, but Williams did give us some unexpected spice very early on to tide readers over.
Just Our Luck was a sweet, fake-dating romance that had great character development, diversity and body positivity seamlessly entwined in Sybil and Kieran’s stories, and the love (and luck) of a lifetime. Just Our Luck was a fun read from start to finish.
