An Unexpected Path by Megan McSpadden

Another book that I've wanted to read that got stuck in my KU queue too long that I'm so glad I finally got to! It was as lovely as I'd heard from people and, I don't care what naysayers say, there are some insta-love stories that are exactly as they should be and this is one of them! Marley and Bennett's meet cute/disaster (aka she is injured and found by a handsome man with 21 dogs) was funny and the spark between them was immediately clear. I loved the emotional and mental journeys both character's take learning that needing others is okay and actually a good thing. Also, some truly excellent side characters (totally called who the next book would be about and am glad I was right) including a family of Hores and a pack of over 20 dogs and one calf. There are some spicy scenes but they aren't as explicit as many things I read, even a bit fade to black for some, so if that's more your vibe (or you're like me and enjoy any level of closed to open door) I think you'd enjoy it!

Reread 2025: I knew I loved this book but I'm so glad I decided to reread the first two before the new one because there were so many details I'd forgotten. Meg's writing is witty, sometimes a little snarky, full of puns and word play (we love that here), funny, sweet, and a little spicy. Marley sprains an ankle on a hike and is rescued by Bennett and his 21 dogs. He runs a rescue and she stays with him while healing because the road is washed out. This is instalove as it should be, with a return to reality when she goes to Syria for her job as a conflict photographer. Thankfully, it's a romance so we know she makes her way back to him and their new, also valid and very swoony, reality. Loved it!
