I’ve never really liked magic realism, but this one managed to work for me thanks to the fact it’s about football. And the ghostly impression and imagery of a soccer training area in the middle of a jungle is fabulous. The framing of the story is also a strong aspect to the flow as it allows for the overall backstory to be broken up a bit. Good stuff.
