Finally, after 4 volumes we are back on track with some sort of plot. In volume 8 of Hitorijime My Hero we are finally seeing character development and plot movement. Masahiro has come such a long way since the beginning. He is less nervous, is taking charge, and finally gaining confidence in himself and his relationship with Kousuke. He also is smiling more and seems far happier than the beginning volumes.

I also agree with the other reviewers in the sense that the tone of the manga has changed. In the last 7 volumes, there was an ease, a lightness to the storytelling. Volume 8 has taken a serious turn with Kousuke's friends trying to sabotage his relationship and the big steps he is taking with Masahiro in their relationship.

Also, what the heck is going on with Kensuke and Hasekura? I mean I understand they took their relationship to the next level in the last volume, but wouldn't that make things less weird now? I feel like we are missing back context and will most likely get it randomly in a following volume.

It's sad that this was the best volume so far, I am hoping it finally gets better from here.
