Black Swan Rising by Lee Carroll

3.0

An interesting fantasy adventure. I liked the nods to history and mythology, though I did find how the author remarked on New York City streets and landmarks a lot a little annoying after a while. That might be thrilling for someone who knew the streets and landmarks better, but for a small town girl from Texas it just got a little distracting and repetitive from the overall story. Also the ending was a little abrupt; it felt like this big deal was made about training her to face the villain, but she didn't really use that much of her training in the end as there wasn't really a big showdown. It all happened a little too quickly. Otherwise, I liked the story and the mythological characters that cropped up throughout.
