As Old as Time by Liz Braswell

5.0

I love anything to do with Disney or Beauty and the Beast. When I saw this book, I was unsure. I saw the cover, the beasts eyes are glowing and a tagline that said, "What if Belle's mother cursed the beast?" Intriguing. But I was also skeptical. As I began to read, Liz Braswell, not only captured the magical essence of Beauty and the Beast but added to it.

The story starts out very familiar. We are introduced to a spoiled Prince being cursed by an Enchantress. However, throughout Part 1 of the story, we are thrown back and forth between the present and the past. The present is through Belle's perspective and the past through Maurice's perspective. We meet Belle's mother, Rosalind, a beautiful Enchantress. We are also introduced to new characters and many of them are described as magical people and creatures called Les Charmantes.

The author does a fantastic job at linking the story we love to a cruel but intriguing twist. After part 1 the story changed from the one we know but it is so captivating and refreshing. All the characters make mistakes and make the characters more relatable. I really enjoyed reading this different spin on a beloved classic.
