UGH. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. I tried, and I failed. I couldn't get myself to finish this book, and it wasn't for any reason in particular, but I'll still attempt to explain why it just didn't work for me.

There were some funny bits, and also a few poignant bits. I actually really liked how the book started out, with Megan on a practice run, giving a serial cheater a case of labour pains (his wife was pregnant).

I liked the concept of vengeance demons as only part of the whole word of demons and other supernatural species. Vengeance demons weren't cruel by nature; instead, they were supposedly obsessed with justice, fairness and order. Tricksters were chaotic pranksters, the complete opposite of vengeance demons. It was also cool that you had to go to university to take on certain professions, as you would in the human world.

However, I was bored. The plot was meandering, and scenes didn't really seem to connect or flow in a fully developed way. The characters were fleetingly interesting, but I wasn't invested in any of them. I think the most emotion I felt while reading was annoyance and disgust at the Council. It didn't really make sense that this race of beings that lived for fairness could be so petty and unfair.

Also, this book is technically supposed to be partly Paranormal Romance, but by 41%, there was not even a glimpse of a romantic interest. According to another reviewer, the romance was quite light, so this Special Person was clearly not a big part of this book... Maybe in future books???

I wish it could have stuck with this, as I think the idea had a lot of potential, and I really did like the world. That being said, I found my mind wandering far too often, and I would often look down at the progress on my Kindle, sighing when I saw I'd only read another 2%. I decided it was better to just let it be before I got too frustrated.
