The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe
5.0
The Raven is my favorite piece of poetry. It's gripping and haunting in its repetition. Poe’s descriptive use of works just captures the imagination and really brings out the terror this man was feeling.
Deep into that darkness peering,
long I stood there wondering, fearing,
Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before;
But the silence was unbroken, and the stillness gave no token,
And the only word there spoken was the whispered word, “Lenore?”
In just these few lines Poe paints a picture that captures the imagination and the unfolding terror. He truly was a master of writing and poetry. I reread this poem almost every year and it gets better every time.
Also Christopher Lee does a great job at narrating this poem. He really brings it to life.
