Julia by Peter Straub
2.0
This was barely interesting enough to hold my attention, but I finished it due to it being this month's book club book with some friends. The story is boring, slow, and full of really stupid characters. Straub can't write a female character properly - at least not based on this book, as it's my first of his - and the novel is full of rich people with rich people problems, making it difficult to really connect with anyone. Julia is, to be blunt, an idiot. I thought there was going to be a reason she kept locking herself out of her house, but nope. The choices this woman makes made me dislike her even more as the novel went on. The haunting stuff was just ok. All the reviews quoted on the cover are super misleading, this is not an intense ghost story that left my skin crawling.
