Stamped: Racism, Antiracism, and You by Ibram X. Kendi, Jason Reynolds

5.0

I read this book with the intention of including it in the curriculum for my high school students and this book exceeded my expectations. Not only will my students be reading this book, I’m encouraging every single person to read it—high schooler or not. It’s accessible, funny, and thoughtful. The thesis is clear & supported in every line. Does it cover every single historical event that involves racism? No. But that’s NOT what it sets out to do. It’s a book that “contains history” but it is not a traditional history book. It sets out to “help us better understand why we are where we are as Americans, specifically as our identity pertains to race” and it delivers. If I could give this book 6 stars I would.
