Brain on Fire: My Month of Madness by Susannah Cahalan

5.0

Susannah Cahalan is a successful 24 year old who all of a sudden starts behaving erratically, hallucinating and having seizures. Doctors and her family try to figure out what is happen and how to help her. They eventually discover that she has autoimmune encephalitis. The book is told in first person based on interviews with her family, video recordings, her memories, and journals she wrote during that time.

I LOVED this book. Maybe it's the nursing nerd in me, but I loved hearing Susannah's experience as a patient. It was fascinating. She makes good points about people who don't have as many resources or support as her. Very well-written and captivating. She was honest and real.

There was some language in the book but nothing overly offensive or gratuitous.
