Pines by Blake Crouch
4.0
I picked Wayward Pines assuming it must be a science fiction thriller like Dark Matter, but I was surprised to discover that it was a full-fledged mystery thriller, peppered with some surprising sci-fi elements. I am glad I went into this book not knowing what it was. The reveal was mind blowing!!
I was surprised to read this side of Crouch's writing. He maintains the mystery with a very tight plot. The town he created is extremely creepy and mysterious. I just felt the scenes were bit too stretched. The physical activity of the protagonist was overly descriptive and lengthy. It killed the flow. Hence the four stars.
I still, however, enjoying Wayward Pines. Like Black Crouch said, it makes you think of Twin Peaks and Lost, which, to me, was very pleasing.
I can't wait to read the other two books in the trilogy.
