I picked this book up because the last KA Knight book I read wasn’t half bad (Diver’s Heart) and because of a very compelling Bookish Box Darkly special edition. But I definitely won’t be finishing the series and I probably won’t be reading much more of this author.
📕 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: The Court of Nightmares by KA Knight
📙 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀: Courts and Kings character series. Book 1.
📗 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘀: E-book on Kindle. 🆓 on KU.
📘 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗿𝗲: Paranormal romance
📔 𝗧𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝘀: Why choose, chosen ones, fated mates.
📖 𝗦𝘆𝗻𝗼𝗽𝘀𝗶𝘀: Althea is rejected by her mate and consumed with blood lust before she’s brought before a tribunal to face judgement. When she’s sentenced to death she’s given a choice - a peaceful trip to the afterlife or to become a judge herself.
🌟 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄: Listen, this isn’t one of those books that needs a super long review breaking it down. The concept was cool, and the why choose vibes were there. The spice was aplenty and the same level as Den of Vipers - if not a bit higher.
But if you looked too deep, all of the facade stripped away. The backstory of Althea’s SEVEN lovers all felt repetitive. The spice-to-plot level was super unbalanced. There were so many plot holes. It was also… 200 pages (at least) too long.
It’s annoying a bit because I knooooow if it was given a solid story edit this would be one of those series you can’t help but get addicted to. But as it is, I’m good with walking away.
𝗥𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴: 3/5 ⭐⭐⭐
𝗦𝗽𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗟𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹: 4/5 🌶🌶🌶🌶
