The Sandman series came to stand out as the pinnacle of modern myth making and are, as far as I am concerned, still holding on to that. In the first installment there is a good story and one of the best openings in literature and a closing chapter that brings things together and in a very real sense kicks the subsequent issues into gear.
But there are also a story to fragmented at times and connections to Batman that are wholly unnecessary.
