This is the first book in the Tales of the Forgotten Fae duology, a fae romantasy about a woman required to give up her future to serve her family and king. There are some spicy scenes in the first half of the book.
Tropes and themes include:
✨ Secret order
✨ Love triangle
✨ One bed
✨ Academia/training vibes
✨ Fated mates
✨ Found family
✨ Magic discovery
✨ Single first person POV
Rating: 4/5 Stars 2/5 Flames
The Lovely: I loved the characters - all of those making up the FMC’s new “found family.” Each person is so unique, both in terms of skills and personalities. I was not prepared for the love triable but I thought it was handled well.
The Mundane: I struggled with the pacing and narrations of the book as there were a lot of length inner monologues that I felt slowed the pace of the story. Even when there were other characters around, affording the opportunity for dialogue, we still heart the FMC’s thoughts on what was happening.
Recommendation: I received an advance review copy and my thoughts are my own. The flow of the story was unique - the first 40%ish read more like a romance set in fantasy lands and the remainder was fantasy with some romantic tension. I enjoyed where the story was going, just not the slow pace of most of the narration. The story piqued my interest and I will likely read book two when it releases.
