The Help by Kathryn Stockett

5.0

Beautiful and achingly poignant.
This book has such voice; the characters are so real, and the story so intense, you forget that you are reading a work of fiction, albeit one that is based on a reality not so far in our past.
Another testament to the rawness of the book is that the author did not choose to wrap everything up neatly at the end. The tattered strings are left dangling. I didn't even realize I had finished the book until I looked on to the next page and saw "Acknowledgements."
In conclusion, all I have to say is, "wow."
