On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous by Ocean Vuong
4.0
-it's a little hard for me to rate this book. some parts were like museum paintings--pretty to look at, but i couldn't really connect with them on a personal level (despite ocean vuong and i having, uh, some similarities). on the other hand, some parts took my breath away with how beautiful they were. like i audibly gasped.
-so this book sits somewhere around 3.75/5 for me, but i'll round it up to 4 because it deserves it.
-his writing is so beautiful. the second and third parts of the book were especially amazing. so tender and honest it made me uncomfortable (but in a good way?)
-i initially thought this book was fiction (before i read it), but now i'm not so sure? i've read ocean vuong's wikipedia page a few times after i saw some of his poetry on t*mblr, and his real life and little dog's life are near identical? idk. maybe this is just a fictionalized version of his real life. either way--what a beautiful story.
