Steel Lily by Megan Curd
Did not finish book.
30% DNF.
This book started out pretty okay. I liked the world, the concept of the plot, the main character was okay for a while. But things quickly went down hill for me. The main character suffers from "Special Snowflake syndrome". Sure, she's not the only one that can manipulate water molecules or whatever it is she's doing, but she has to be the best, she has to also be younger by a number of years than her classmates, and there has to be that one girl who is a catty bitch for no reason. The number of annoying cliche's started to add up that made this book less enjoyable than I was hoping. This book had promise, but there were just so many small things at the start that drew me out of the story.
The thing that I found the least believable was how few years society was trapped under a dome (barely 30 years), and this dome somehow protected them from radiation. First off, everybody in that dome is either really gullible, or really stupid.
The MC also has a best friend, who was probably one of the better parts of how little I read, but she may have gotten annoying later in the book, I'll never know.
The character that I really kind of hated was the random guy that "rescues" the MC and her friend from the authorities. I guess he's supposed to be adorably cocky, but he just came off as really annoying and full of himself. And more than once it seemed as if he had a split personality.
The inconsistent character personalities and the flimsy world building kept me from getting invested in not only the characters, but the world in general.
