A Memory Called Empire by Arkady Martine
3.0
(read as ebook)
What's it about?
It's a science fiction book told from the point of view of Mahit, a young woman abruptly sent as an ambassador to the large Teixcalaanli Empire from her small space station nation-state. Mahit discover what befell her predecessor, work to keep her nation out of the expansionist plans of the Teixcalaanli Empire while navigating the intrigues of court. Action takes place over the space of a week. Fairly fast paced, but mostly low key intrigue. Focuses on factions and infighting.
What did I think?
I liked it. The poetry aspect felt a bit contrived, but it was a nice setting. Reminded me a bit of [b:A Shadow in Summer|208|A Shadow in Summer (Long Price Quartet, #1)|Daniel Abraham|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1442890371l/208._SY75_.jpg|1711253], with the poetry and court intrigue.
