Turtles All the Way Down by John Green
3.0
3.5*
I read this on Kindle while my physical copy is locked away in storage from the move because I wanted to read it before watching the movie.
I appreciate the representation of mental illness. I appreciate the different kinds of love and support.
I found the mystery weak. And I found Daisy fairly insufferable. I loved her bravado and spunk but I found her addressing of Aza (and Ayala) to be unnecessarily cruel. There's honesty and then there's being obnoxious. I would've felt more for her when she addressed this with Aza except that she seemed to go right back to the behavior.
I'll watch the movie, but the book is what I expect of John Green. I think he's a fabulous person. I think parts of his writing are really profound and beautiful, but the whole doesn't always resonate with me. (But I'm glad that it resonates for so many.)
