The Sweetest Oblivion by Danielle Lori
5.0
Reread 8/12/2021
5⭐
Honest to god, idk wtf was wrong with me when I gave this book 4.25⭐
Reading it for the second time around made me fall harder and deeper in love with Nico and Elena. I kind of get why the whole "lusting after my sister's fiancé" made me feel eh the first time, but now, I find that it didn't affect me as much. The first and third book in this series are hands down one of my comfort reads. Nico Russo can rail me into obliovion and I'll go thank him for doing just that ffs. Does my obsession with ruthless criminals/psychopaths indicate how mentally and emotionally unstable I am? Probably. Not kidding, but I would sacrifice my kidney and liver to get a man like Nicolas Russo ajsjjsks. Anyways, if you're reading this review, take this as a sign from the universe telling you to go and read this series if you haven't yet already!
Changed from 4.25⭐ to 4.5⭐
*SPOILERS*
Ngl but the beginning of this book did put me off a little bit. I didn't like the way that Elena was such a pushover - imo I wanted her to be stronger, especially with her Father. I assumed that it would be another okay-ish read, but God wasn't I wrong!
The way that the story picked up pace around halfway into the book was just mwah <3
Most of all, I loved the fact that Elena had grown so much towards the end and became a stronger woman. Also don't even get me started on Nico. I initially thought him to be a controlling pyschopath, but that opinion changed as soon as he started showing his softer, gentler side towards Elena. I already knew that I was a sucker for dark romance, but Nico and Elena just blew my mind with their chemistry + the whole forbidden/twisted romance that they had going on.
Apart from the whole "I'm lusting after my sister's fiancé" trope, I found the rest of the book to be very satisfying. It's a good thing that Adriana was in love with someone else right from the beginning - otherwise I wouldn't have been able to overlook that fact and would have prolly DNFd it.
I cannot wait to read the next book in this series and be blown away by Gianna and Christian's story!!!
