Funny Story by Emily Henry

Want to hear Funny Story reader?

There are two people named Daphne and Miles okay? Daphne is engaged to Peter and Miles is hopelessly in love with his girlfriend Petra. Still paying close attention reader? Okay.

Peter and Petra happen to be childhood friends and since Peter and Daphne are tying the knot soon, Peter throws a bachelor's party. Daphne, being the bride, naturally wouldn't attend—but Petra as his "childhood best friend" did.

One thing led to another that night and after many, many years—here's the best part—Peter and Petra realized that they have been IN LOVE with each other.

And then we are left with a heartbroken Daphne and heartbroken Miles. But it doesn't stop here.

Daphne, having no where to go, ends up living with Miles as his roommate.

And wait, wait, wait! Daphne and Miles decide to play pretend-girlfriend and boyfriend.

But at which point does pretend becomes real? Especially since they live under the same roof? You'll have to read the book to find out.

Though I will say the pretend-game is not that prominent since we see Daphne and Miles interact away from prying eyes so I'm glad at least I can catch genuine reactions and feelings that aren't "pretend".

Daphne and Miles are kindred souls who were deeply scarred from not just their partners (now exes) but with their families too. Emily effortlessly reminds the readers of those scars when one of the characters are faced with a situation where it's triggered. It truly made my heart hurt for both of them.

While Beach Read remains my favorite Emily Henry book, I really enjoyed this one (though I did go a bit "ehhh" in the last third of the book because of something).
