The Opposite of Loneliness: Essays and Stories by Marina Keegan

5.0

While Marina Keegan was born the year before me, I am now older than she will ever be. This echoes through her writing as her strong youthful voice firmly insists on being hear. I enjoyed all of her fiction, and, to be completely honest, I skimmed through some of her essays. At least two of her shorts stories were far too short for my liking. I wish I could have a whole novel of those characters. Her talent shines in writing through the lense of so many different people of all ages and genders. What is most brilliant about this book is her now-famous speech from her 2012 Yale graduation. I highly recommend this book for people interested in just the human experience to see it through the eyes of a sassy, intelligent and inquisitive 22 year-old woman.
